• Check the age minimum first. Usually 5–7, always venue-specific — partly a "can they carry the vest" test. Each listing shows the ages the venue states or the ages parents report, when we have that evidence; a 30-second call settles a borderline case.
• Ask for the junior-session schedule. The good stuff — lower-power blasters, slower rounds, no teenagers in the arena — usually runs at set weekend-morning or early-afternoon slots, and the schedule changes seasonally. "When do you run junior games?" is the question.
• Start with one game. The arena is dark, foggy, and loud on purpose; some kids love it instantly and some need a round to warm up. Buy one game, then add — most venues sell multi-game bundles you can upgrade into on the spot.
• Closed-toe shoes, and sign any waiver online. Flip-flops sit out the round at most venues. Where a waiver is required, a minor's must be signed by their own parent or guardian — handle it from your phone before drop-off, especially if someone else is driving.
• At combo venues, set the budget in the car. Arcades, trampolines, and snack counters share the building at a lot of these places — decide on the game-card number before the counter does it for you.
