Laser Tag Stats, 2026

We mapped every laser tag venue in America — 1,527 arenas and entertainment centers with 1,280,378 player reviews between them. Here's where the arenas actually are, which states have the most laser tag per resident, and how the big chains split the map with independents. (Journalists & bloggers: cite freely with a link.)

Which states have the most laser tag per capita?

Nationally there are about 4.5 laser tag venues per million residents. The per-capita crown goes to North Dakota at 12.6 venues per million — 10 venues for a state of 0.8 million people — with Utah at 12.3 and New Hampshire at 8.5 close behind. The pattern that jumps out: laser tag density follows family-entertainment culture, not coastal population — the leaders are states where the big all-under-one-roof fun centers anchor a weekend out. At the other end, Hawaii has just 0.7 per million.

#StateVenuesPer million people
1 North Dakota 10 12.6
2 Utah 43 12.3
3 New Hampshire 12 8.5
4 Wyoming 5 8.5
5 Iowa 26 8
6 Vermont 5 7.7
7 Delaware 8 7.6
8 Connecticut 26 7.1
9 Arkansas 19 6.2
10 Idaho 12 6
11 Alabama 31 6
12 Oregon 25 5.9
13 Michigan 58 5.7
14 New Jersey 53 5.6
15 Mississippi 16 5.4

By raw count the big states still win — California has 136, Texas has 106, Florida has 84 — but per player, North Dakota is the easiest place in America to find an arena.

Chains vs. independents

Of the 1,527 venues in the directory, 64 (4%) belong to a national chain and 1,463 are independents or small local brands — laser tag is still very much an independents’ game. The biggest brands in the directory: Launch Entertainment with 14 locations and Urban Air with 14 locations.

Comparing locations of one brand? The chain pages rank every location of each chain by player rating — the comparison the chains' own locators don't give you.

America's densest laser tag cities

Laser tag venues per 100k residents, cities over 50k population. These aren't the biggest cities — they're the family-entertainment suburbs and mid-size metros where the fun centers cluster and a round of tag is the default weekend plan.

Methodology: venue counts from our continuously maintained national directory (public business listings, filtered to genuine laser tag venues and arenas); attribute counts (parties, kids sessions, adult nights, multi-level arenas, sensory-friendly sessions) mined from venue websites and customer reviews; chain assignment from venue names and brand sites; population = US Census 2024 estimates. Per-capita = venues ÷ state population × 1,000,000. Want the dataset for a story? Email us — we're happy to cut the numbers by state or metro, with attribution.
